About Your Host
Shelby Stanger has been obsessed with storytelling since she inked her first article in a national newspaper at the ripe age of 15. As a longtime adventure journalist and marketing consultant in the action and outdoor sports world, the waterwoman has standup-paddled a portion of the Peruvian Amazon, dove into the punk rock scene reporting about a summer-long series called the Vans Warped tour, surfed from Tofino to Tavarua, and interviewed countless CEOs, entrepreneurs and pro athletes on assignment for major international publications and brands like Outside Magazine, ESPN, Nike, and Vans.
The common thread to her work: A little adventure is life’s antidote. To second chances. To soul seeking. To success. Her Wild Ideas Worth Living podcast, established in 2016, amplifies these narratives with Shelby going further afield for high-impact storytelling that empowers others to live their passions, and get outside.
MORE ABOUT WHY I STARTED WILD IDEAS WORTH LIVING
Have you ever had a wild idea, but were afraid to act on it? Or maybe you started, but then self-doubt crept in, someone told you it wouldn’t work, or you talked yourself out of it. It took me three years to quit my job in 2009 to pursue a life with more adventure. As a journalist who was interviewing others who had taken their own ideas and made them a reality, I began to develop the courage to go for my own wild ideas.
This is the podcast I wish I had listened to when deciding to quit an AWESOME marketing job to pursue freelance journalism. Again, when deciding to move to Costa Rica to surf and write from abroad. Again, when I fell in love and moved to New Zealand. Again, when launching a new business.
This podcast aims to be informative, helpful and fun. It’s about building a tribe of people who want to make more positive decisions in their lives, from the food they eat to the people they surround themselves with. It’s about taking a wild leap of faith and having meaningful conversations with people who have made it happen. Thank you for subscribing. Thank you for listening. I am excited to embark on this wild journey with you!
Shelby lands incredible interviews with fascinating humans because she walks their walk – over and again, she has turned her own wild ideas into reality. I am as big a fan of Shelby’s as I am of her podcast.Alyssa Roenigk
